What is a Grey Import?
Generally, it's an item imported through a grey area in a country's import laws.
In Australia, as far as it applies to forklifts, grey imports are new and used machines purchased in another country, then imported in limited numbers and complianced by the importer to be eligible for Australian registration.
Unlike official imports (those imported with the approval and involvement of the Manufacturer) grey imports receive no official support through the manufacturer's dealer network.
POTENTIAL ISSUES TO BE CONSIDERED PRIOR TO PURCHASING A GREY IMPORT
All of TASK Forklifts Walkie Stackers, Electric Pallet Trucks and Counterbalance Forklifts comply to Australian Standards.
We offer on-going continuous spare parts and technical support for all of our stackers, right through to the very first one made in 1981.
Does the import meet with local safety requirements?
Do fittings such as tynes, seat belts, brakes and Over Head Guards meet Australian Standards?
Does the rating plate reflect local conditions and any attachments fitted? Is it in English? Does the rating plate reflect 600mm load centre capacities or altered capacities for any attachment fitted?
Is the unit supplied with an Australian compliant Operator Manual as per the Australian Standard?
Units imported via non authorized (OEM appointed) channels will not receive notification of factory upgrades or important safety/product improvement campaigns.
Is there any local warranty supplied? Will the local manufacturer’s authorized representative honour warranty on units they did not import or pre deliver? Needs to be clarified before proceeding with any purchase.
Are spare parts available locally? Is there any technical support in the event of failure? (Applies to all low volume products)
In the event of an accident, is there any manufacturers liability if they were not involved in the import or the regular maintenance of the unit?
Re-sale value of any non-compliant, grey/parallel import will be seriously reduced.
